Will Autel IM608 still work if I don’t update it?

Yes. Autel IM608 and IM508 will do most key programming and diagnostics unless it requires online calculation.
For example, Autel MaxilM IM608 won’t program a Mercedes key in AKL situation when 1-year subscription expired, because IM608 won’t perform password calculation which needs to be connected to Autel server.

User’s experience:

  1. it does most stuff, except anything to do with online calculations. I used my im608 without subscription for about 4 months, I don’t do many BMW, MB or VW so I pretty much didn’t even notice I didn’t have a subscription.
  2. You won’t do Mercedes’ bmw vag some GM Toyota etc
  3. It seems every time I’ve used it for simple things immo related it needs access to Internet. Pulling a pin code on Peugeot it needs Internet access.
  4. Most vag still working fine. Just NOT free.
  5. When subscription runs out you lose support, warranty and anything that requires online access for pin calculations. Otherwise it will still work.

To update your autel im608 sw:

Step1: Make sure the Display Tablet is connected to a power source with stable access to the internet.
Step2: Tap the Update application button from the MaxiIM Job Menu; or tap the update notification message when received one; or tap the Update icon on Vehicle Menu in Diagnostics application.

Step3: Check all available updates:

  • If you decide to update all the items of IMMO software, select IMMO Tab and then tap the Update All button; if you want to update all items of diagnostic software, select Diagnose Tab and then tap the Update All button.
  • If you only want to update one or some of the item(s), tap the Update button on the right column of the specific item(s).

Step4: Tap the Pause button to suspend the updating process. When you tap Continue to renew the update, the updating process will resume from the breaking point.

Step5: When the updating process is completed, the firmware will be installed automatically. The previous version will be replaced.

All of the updates are done, Open Maxiim Job Menu again to use the latest version.

The updates can improve the MaxiIM applications’ capabilities, typically by adding new tests, new models, or enhanced applications to the database.

Autel IM508/IM608 Tablet automatically searches for available updates for all of the MaxiIM software when it is connected to the Internet. Any updates that are found can be downloaded and installed on the device.
