VOLVO MODELYEARS
S401996 – 2003
V401996 – 2004
FH-12 TRUCKS1997 – 1998

THIS TABLE IS INTENDED TO BE USED AS A GUIDE ONLY. IF YOUR KEY BLADE LOOKS LIKE THE ONES IN THE PHOTOS THEN WE CAN MAKE YOU A SPARE KEY EVEN IF THE MODEL DOES NOT APPEAR IN THE TABLE.

This key profile is a JMA HU-DH.P2 and has the same key blade as a Silca HU 56R. Other Silca references using this key profile but with different head shapes include HU56RAT2, HU56RFH, HU56RMH, HU56RP(NON-TRANSPONDER), HU56RT2, HU56RT30, & HU56RTE.

This key profile (with a different shape head) was also used with a number of Mitsubishi models and Smart car models as HU-DH.P1 and HU-DH.P3.

This is a track cut or laser cut key profile and we sure a special milling type cutter to duplicate your key. This manual key profile can also be used to make a spare key for a fraction of the cost of a remote or flip key with later models, saving you lots.

It is always best to bring the vehicle to our shop when getting a new transponder key. In the case of some of the model listed above, they use highly encrypted transponder chips and so the car MUST be present to make a new key as we need to gather data from the vehicle and the key using our special equipment to make a copy of the chip. This is particularly true of the later models after 2010.

Please allow a minimum of 10 minutes and up to 45 minutes for certain keys to be copied.

If you wish to book a specific time, you can pre-purchase and pay for your key online and use the Click & Collect option at the checkout and we will call you to arrange a time to come in. Please specify make, model and year in the comment section of the checkout.

The main security element in modern car, van or motorcycle keys is the transponder chip. These have been used in most makes from the mid 90’s. It is this item that allows the ignition to start the engine. These transponders can come in a few different types and there is more information on this subject in our FAQ section.

In most modern remote keys or flip keys there are 2 main elements, the remote control which often just opens the doors and the transponder chip which holds encrypted security information that allows the vehicle to start with the key is placed in the ignition where this information can be read by the vehicle’s computer.

Having even a manual key as a spare can save a lot of stress and expense later and is much cheaper then having a spare remote key or flip key.

A few things to consider would be:

When the car is locked using the remote and then opened with the key, does it set off the alarm? This is common in some car makes with the alarm going off until the car is started. Always a good idea to check this before getting a copy made as if you are sharing the car with another user who uses the remote your neighbours may not be too pleased with the regular early morning car alarm calls. If the key is intended to only be a spare then it will not matter as much.

A transponder key such as this is essentially waterproof  as it does not contain a battery and so if you like surfing, boating, kayaking, stand up paddle boarding, fishing or any other water based activities where you have to lock your vehicle and leave it unattended for a while this kind of key will allow you to lock the car and bring the key with you without fear of any water damage as would be the case with a remote key or flip key.

Having a spare transponder key can save you thousands of dollars should you lose your main every day key. Losing your only key with some brands of cars can be a massive headache, involving towing your vehicle to a dealer, having to have the immobilizer box replaced, having all the lock barrels replaced and having the ignition barrel replaced. You may be without your vehicle for up to a week.

Of course this is a worst case scenario and with some makes and models a new key can be cut and coded to your vehicle even is all the keys are lost but even then this is still a much more expensive and stressful procedure than simply having a spare key made.
